Challenge Accepted

Hi friends :) It's been a while. Probably more than a while but who's counting? I started out this blog with high hopes and good intentions which were slowly replaced with lack of ideas and, well, life. I won't go into all of the details...mostly because there are no details. Just.Life.  How long I will continue this time around will wait to be found out, but with a "threat" from my daughter that she would delete me from her blog lists that she reads, I figured it was high time to blog something so I'm not deleted! ;-) Thanks, Alix, for the motivation.

Week in Review in Pics

What an interesting week this has been, not only for me, but for all of America.  Who would have thought that after the "high" of the Royal Wedding last Friday that the ordeal with Osama Bin Laden would follow closely on its heels?  To be honest, I was a little surprised, yet relieved that they finally found him.  I, however, was not one that was whooping and hollering and celebrating.  I have multiple reasons as to why, some personal, some political, some spiritual.  No matter what our personal stances are on the matter it is yet again one of those moments in history that you will remember exactly where you were when you heard the news.  If you didn't read my earlier post about "To Tweet or Not to Tweet", you'll know how I found out about it.

As promised, here is my week in review in picture form :)

Saturday 4/30/2011
The Mandevilla is beginning to bloom beautifully
We got a new little bird bath and bird feeder for the backyard. (Yes, we're getting "old")

Mike & I went to the Denton Jazz & Arts Festival.  LOTS of people but a definite "must" for next year!

Getting ready to head out to church, only to see this beautiful sight!  I love clouds!!

Sunday evening I was reading my Twitter feed and came across the news that it was about to break about the US capturing/killing Osama Bin Laden.  I bought a couple of papers the next morning to keep with all of my other history-making newspapers.

Tuesday 5/3/2011

As I was putting away the dishes from the dishwasher I grabbed this bowl to put away.  There's a little standing "joke" between Mike & myself about this bowl.  He thinks it's for him to take salads to work in and I think it's to hold the homemade salsa I make.  It doesn't mean anything to anyone but me, but it was something I wanted to remember, so I took the pic of "the bowl" :)

Our youngest daughter brought this home from school today.  Wait. What? She can order a class ring now?  But I just walked her into her kindergarten class yesterday, didn't I?!

This is my view most mornings.  Watching the birdfeeder & birdbath while using my laptop at the kitchen table.

Cinco de Mayo, Fuzzy's style

Friday, 5/6/2011

Again, this will have no significance to anyone but me, but in the midst of my afternoon "wanting to snack" mood, I had these 2 choices...and I chose the apple.  A monumental occasion for me so I wanted to document it in picture form :)

So there you have it. From history making world events to choosing an apple over candy, that is how my week rolled!  I hope you all had a great week!  Try to capture yours in pictures, too!

To Tweet or not to Tweet...

Yes, I think you should tweet!

So why did I suddenly throw in a blog about tweeting?  Because I found out about the Bin Laden ordeal before it was ever even announced on TV.  I was able to follow some particular tweets that kept feeding the information out through Twitter.  It was much better reading those than listening to the guys on TV who just kept babbling about the same thing over and over and not really knowing what they were saying. It was convenient and said just enough (140 characters worth) to get the info out yet still give you what you needed to know. (I'm going to put little pics throughout the post showing what I was reading as things were unfolding.  This isn't the only news source I was following, but it gives you an idea of what a tweet looks like.)

My pics for the week

I had said earlier that I wanted to take at least 1 pic per day, mostly for myself to see what I've done during the week, but also just to share with you and possibly even challenge you to do the same.  I knew I didn't want to post a blog post every day just to share my daily pictures.  I don't have a big enough nor loyal enough blog following to attempt that move.  So, I decided to try and post my weekly pics on Friday.  That way I feel I've shared my pics and my life with you and made you smile...or laugh...or unsubscribe from my blog...well, hopefully not the last one. I need followers for my blog!

I got some crayons out and colored a picture to send to my nephew, Ryan.  I always loved to color with a brand new set of sharpened crayons.

Calling in sick. I have Royal Wedding fever.

Tomorrow is the big day-The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Given that this is the most talked about story world wide, (outside of the horrendous tornadoes in AL and MS  yesterday) I'm sure you already knew that.  I've been made fun of by some and others think it utterly ridiculous that I think it is so exciting.  That's ok.  I don't mind. It happens once every 30 years so if that's as often as people think I'm ridiculous then I think I'm doing pretty good with my life!

A Lost Art

Snapshots of the day:

The lost art of letter writing. How many of you actually write out letters anymore?  Don't most of us just send an email or a text message? Truthfully, that is how I mostly communicate with friends and family but there are a few special people who get actual hand-written letters from me :) If you haven't sent a personal card or written a letter to someone in a while, dust off pen and paper and give it a try!

Who knew about strawberry marshmallows and didn't tell me?!  I didn't even realize they existed until reading on this recipe the other day.  My daughter had pointed out pink marshmallows before but I thought it was just a colored marshmallow, not flavored!  They're pretty good if you like marshmallows!  To add Nutella to the mix only sweetens the deal.

So, go in, write me a letter and then mail me some chocolate covered strawberry marshmallows, k?!

Snapshots of my Day

I had this bright idea to try to take at least one picture a day of something to remember the day by.  Realization that time is moving by very quickly caused me to want to try to slow it down a little by capturing it in pictures.  Luckily you, my blog readers, get to be the guinea pigs and walk through this idea with me!  Don't bail on me, ok?!  I'm still going to continue with my apps and coffee quips because that is what I love to do.  But as an outlet for my photographic genius I decided to use my blog instead of using facebook.  My hope is to grow my blog but isn't that everyone who blogs hope is?!

Ok, so now that I have that out of the way here are 3 pics of my day today.

The pic above is of my new Vera Bradley laptop "skin".  I LOVE all things Vera Bradley.  I think her patterns are fun and her purses have a bunch of pockets to keep me organized. The purses aren't everyone's personal style because they are bright, big colorful patterns but they definitely work for me!

Today I got to spend the afternoon with a couple of friends making cotton candy for our church's Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday.  Mike and I usually help make cotton candy for the Fall Festival our church does around Halloween.  It's always fun, but then again, I love cotton candy!  The afternoon cotton candy making was a good, sugary way to break up the afternoon :-)
Now it makes sense  why I was so jittery all afternoon!  Sugar, baby!!
I took the pics with my android phone using the Vignette Demo app using a couple of different effects and grungy frame.  I'm trying to make the most of the camera on my phone so I'll be experimenting with various apps.  If only I had the Instagram app that's only available on the iPhone :-?
